Research

My research focuses on the remote sensing of air pollutants and other atmospheric parameters with the aim to further the understanding of the anthropogenic impact on the environment, especially the climate system and the atmospheric composition.

My research activities include ground based and satellite based differential optical absorption spectroscopy (DOAS) measurements for air pollution monitoring, radiometer measurement for aerosol studies, radiative transfer modelling, chemical transport simulations and digital image processing.

Current research investigations include:

  • Long path DOAS (differential optical absorption spectroscopy) measurements of NO2 and CHOCHO
  • Measurements of street-level NO2 concentrations using a Cavity-Enhanced DOAS instrument
  • NO2 profile measurements using a Multi-Axes DOAS instrument
  • Simulation of the transport of emission plumes using the Goddard Chemistry Aerosol Radiation and Transport (GOCART) Model
  • Sky radiometer measurements to determine aerosol optical properties and for satellite validation
  • Radiative transfer calculations and inversion techniques for aerosol measurements
  • Analysis of NO2 patterns and weekly cycles using satellite data
  • Image sequence analysis of NO2 and SO2 concentration maps
