A case study of a cyclonic landfalling storm in the Australian Northern Territory region
The following system forms the basis of NT1
A tropical low developed off the north coast of the
Top End. It made landfall in the Darwin area, before
drifting down the western border of the Northern
Territory. The low initiated an active monsoon onset
over the northern Top End, and brought heavy falls
to many parts of the western Northern Territory,
including some areas of the Tanami Desert, which
exceeded their annual average rainfall in a few days.
There were heavy rainfalls in the Darwin region, with
many 24 hour totals exceeding 100 mm.
