How to get to the Meteorological Institute (from Munich Central Railway Station)

You can either walk or use public transport.

Walk

Check the way by Google Maps or something similar. It takes approximately 15-20 minutes.

Price: 0 €

Public transport

Version 1:

You can use bus No. 100 „Museenlinie“. A ticket „Kurzstrecke“ can be bought at a vending machine inside the bus (have coins ready or a „Geldkarte“). The bus-stop is at the north of the Central Station. The bus leaves every ten minutes.

Alight at the fourth station called „Pinakotheken“ and cross the street behind the bus. Then go two minutes parallel to the tracks of the tramway (Barerstraße) to the North. You see the institute to the right in front of you; enter at the last entrance just before the „Museum Brandhorst“. Meet the lidar group in room 214 (Matthias Wiegner's office) on the second floor (counting 0,1,2) or ask our secretary in room 219 or 226. If you don't find one of us, ask someone.

Price: 1.30 €

Version 2 (preferable if you have heavy luggage):

At the Central Station („Hauptbahnhof“) go to the S-Bahn station (underground; here you can buy a „Kurzstecke“ ticket in a vending machine; it has to be canceled in another machine at the entrance of the S-Bahn-station; you can't do it in the S-Bahn!) and take any S-Bahn, direction „Marienplatz“, from platform 1, which is another moving staircase down. The S-Bahn leaves every 2-3 minutes.

Exit at the next S-Bahn station which is called „Karlsplatz-Stachus“. Go to the surface and take tram No. 27 (direction „Petuelring“) or No. 28 (direction „Scheidplatz“) from platform 3; no additional ticket is required.

Leave the tram at stop „Pinakotheken“ (3. station); while approaching this stop you see an old museum to the left and the new museum „Pinakothek der Moderne“ to the right.

Go to the institute (ugly building just in front of you; one minute walk) and enter the last entrance next to the „Museum Brandhorst“. Meet the lidar group in room 214 (Matthias Wiegner's office) on the second floor (counting 0,1,2) or ask our secretary in room 219 or 226. If you don't find one of us, ask someone.

Price: 1.30 €

Version 3:
