Valparaiso - Day 1
Karl, David and I took a bus ride to Valparaiso in the morning, which
is a tourist town on the coast, about 2 hours from Santiago. Karl and
I stayed for a night whilst David went back later on the day we
came. It was an OK city, with nothing too flash, except for the fact
that it is on the coast. It was a gloomy day with stratus cloud
present throughout, which didn't break up until about 3pm.

The view from Plaza Sotomayer, which was quoted as being "the place
for visitors to Valparaiso to start their sight seeing."
Unfortunately, the entire plaza was under construction at the
time. This was one of the views which looked good from this Plaza. |

The characteristic feature of this city is that it is built on many
hills. This is the view up a moderate sloped road. Note the soccer
sign just to the right of the centre of the photo. |

After climbing up some steep hills, the view from the top is quite
magnificent, with contrasting architectures quite evident throughout Valparaiso. |

To help getting up hills, there are a number of accescensiors around,
which are old style elevators built around the late 1800's early
1900's. We took one up to this hill overlooking the harbour. The sun
finally came out and provided us with this view. |

This is the view immediately outside the bus terminal. This was taken
the following day as Karl and I headed back to Santiago. |
